Walter Cunningham was born in Creston, Iowa, on March 16, 1932, and died on January 3, 2023. He worked as a fighter pilot, physicist, entrepreneur, and astronaut. NASA selected him as its third civilian astronaut, and he served as lunar module pilot on the Apollo 7 mission in 1968. He wrote the book The All-American Boys, published in 1977.
