Biography

Wilson Bentley was born in Jericho, Vermont in 1865 and worked as a farmer and photographer. He was the first known person to photograph snowflakes in detail and record their features. He developed a method of catching flakes on black velvet to capture their images before they melted or sublimated, and he elaborated the theory that no two snowflakes are identical. He died in 1931.
