History & Significance

After the Royalist cavalry was broken at Langport ford on 10 July 1645, Cromwell cavalry pursued the remnants across Sedgemoor for several miles; the relentless pursuit ensured the destruction of Goring army as a fighting force and opened Somerset and Dorset to Parliament.
