Tattershall Castle on the River Bain in the Lincolnshire fens was garrisoned for Parliament and served as an Eastern Association outpost covering the southern approach to the Lincolnshire interior. Its fenland position made it difficult to besiege and it served as a refuge and base throughout the Lincolnshire campaign.
