The Battle

History & Significance

When Governor Ostorius Scapula ordered the disarmament of all tribes south of the Fosse Way, the Iceni of Norfolk and north Suffolk rose in revolt. The uprising was suppressed but the Iceni were allowed to retain a degree of autonomy under their king Prasutagus. This settlement planted the seeds of the later Boudiccan revolt by creating accumulated grievances that erupted in 60 AD.
