History & Significance

Glyndŵr conducted operations in the Welshpool area in 1401 — the same area where Hugh Burnell had scattered his men in September 1400. The Welshpool (Pool) district was contested between those who supported the rebellion and those who remained loyal to the English crown. Gruffudd ap Gwenwynwyn's descendants — lords of Powys — had traditionally been more pro-English than other Welsh dynasties, creating divided loyalties in the region.
