History & Significance

Greenhalgh Castle near Garstang was the last Royalist garrison in Lancashire to surrender. It held out long after all other Lancashire castles had fallen and surrendered only after the general Royalist collapse. The castle was comprehensively demolished by Parliament; no significant remains survive.
