The Battle

History & Significance

On the night of 5-6 July 1685 Lord Feversham's royal camp at Weston Zoyland was supposedly under effective night guard when Monmouth began his night march across Sedgemoor. Cavalry outposts and sentries were alert enough to raise the alarm when Monmouth's forces crossed the Langmoor Rhine, though the main camp was still unprepared when firing began.
