Caernarfon Castle was recovered for the Yorkist crown in 1461 following Jasper Tudor flight. William Herbert extended Yorkist control systematically across north Wales after Mortimers Cross and Edward IVs accession. Caernarfon garrison was changed from Lancastrian to Yorkist without major fighting; the town accepted Yorkist authority as the political situation in north Wales shifted decisively.
