History & Significance

After his guerrilla successes in Carrick and Galloway in 1307, Bruce moved northward through Moray to expand the zone of resistance. The Moray campaign secured the loyalty of northern magnates, denied the English the use of Moray as a recruitment base, and linked Bruce's growing movement with the legacy of Andrew Murray's 1297 rising. Bruce's northern operations in Moray during late 1307 prepared the strategic conditions for the crushing victories of 1308.
