The Battle

History & Significance

The Venicones were the tribe occupying the Fife peninsula between the Forth and Tay. Their territory was traversed by Agricola in his advance north. Roman marching camps in Fife document the passage of the army. The Venicones were apparently subdued without a major engagement and their territory became part of the Roman operational zone in Scotland.
