History & Significance

Parliamentary forces from the Cheshire and Mersey area attempted raids into north-east Wales near Wrexham to disrupt Royalist communications in 1643. A skirmish between the raiding Parliamentary party and Royalist forces from Holt and Denbigh resulted in the Parliamentarians being driven back across the border. The Welsh Royalists maintained control of the north-east border zone.
