History & Significance

Jasper Tudor — the key Lancastrian leader in Wales and uncle of the future Henry VII — made repeated attempts to relieve Harlech and keep the Lancastrian cause alive in Wales. William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke, the dominant Yorkist magnate in Wales, countered each move. These Welsh campaigns of the 1460s were the last sustained military activity of the Wars of the Roses in Wales before Bosworth.
