The Battle

History & Significance

Great Yarmouth as the major port of Norfolk was a firmly Parliamentary town from the outset of the Civil War. The garrison maintained coastal patrols and naval cooperation throughout the war. Parliamentary ships using Yarmouth as a base enforced the naval blockade of Royalist ports and intercepted Royalist shipping attempting to supply garrisons along the east coast.
