History & Significance

During the second Welsh war English forces besiege Aberystwyth Castle, which had been recaptured by the Welsh in the 1282 uprising. The castle commands the Ceredigion coast and its reduction is essential to English control of west Wales. Edward I later rebuilds it as one of his iron ring of concentric castles.
