The Battle

History & Significance

Madog ap Llywelyn, claiming the title Prince of Wales, leads a massive uprising across north Wales in 1294-95. His forces storm and sack the partially built town of Caernarfon, killing the sheriff Roger de Pulesdon and destroying much of the new English settlement. The castle itself holds but the town walls are breached. One of the most serious setbacks to Edward I Welsh ambitions.
