History & Significance

Tacitus records that even in the earliest phase of campaigns against the Silures, supply columns were a primary target. The Silures had learned from Caratacus the value of cutting Roman logistics. The mountainous terrain of south Wales meant Roman supply lines were extended and vulnerable, giving the Silures a persistent tactical advantage in the early conquest period.
