The Battle

History & Significance

John de Vere Earl of Oxford seized St Michael's Mount in Cornwall in September 1473 with a small force from France, hoping to spark a Lancastrian rising in the west country. The venture failed to ignite popular support and after a siege of several months Oxford was forced to surrender in February 1474.
