The Battle

History & Significance

Prince Henry, the future Henry V, besieged Aberystwyth Castle in 1407. The castle had been held by Glyndwr since 1404 and was his principal stronghold on Cardigan Bay. Henry brought heavy artillery including the great bombard Messenger and other guns. The Welsh garrison resisted fiercely. The siege was temporarily lifted but Henry returned and the castle finally fell in 1408, a major blow to Glyndwr s cause.
