History & Significance

Breconshire saw significant armed rising in the Second Civil War as Welsh Presbyterians and Royalists combined against the New Model Army. Armed groups occupied several local strong points and threatened the Parliamentary administration. The rising was connected to the Pembroke revolt and the assembly that marched to St Fagans. Parliamentary local forces had to conduct operations to restore order in Brecon after St Fagans.
