A skirmish in Fife during the years of consolidation after Bannockburn. Some Scottish magnates continued to support the English cause or were neutral in ways that threatened Bruce's control of central Scotland. Suppression of these pockets of resistance in Fife — a strategically important county between the Forth and Tay — was necessary to secure Bruce's rear as he conducted raids into England.
