History & Significance

Charles VI of France dispatched a force of 2,500 men under Jean de Rieux and Patrouillart de Trie to support Glyndwr in 1405, implementing the Treaty of Paris 1404 between Glyndwr and France. The landing at Milford Haven was the largest foreign military intervention in Wales before 1485. The combined force advanced as far as Woodbury Hill in Worcestershire before withdrawing without battle. The French alliance represented the high point of Glyndwr diplomatic achievement.
