The Battle

History & Significance

Ostorius Scapula pushed northwest into the territory of the Deceangli in north Wales, apparently targeting the rich lead and silver mines of Flintshire. Roman lead pigs stamped with the year 49 AD have been found in Flintshire, proving rapid exploitation. The campaign was cut short by a revolt among the Brigantes — the client kingdom to the north.
