The Battle

History & Significance

Parliamentary Colonel Edward Massey captured Evesham on 26 May 1645 following a brief siege. The town on the Avon bend had been a Royalist garrison maintaining communications between Worcester and Oxford. Massey's capture severed this corridor and isolated Worcester from Oxford, contributing to the Royalist collapse in the west Midlands.
