The Battle

History & Significance

After Auldearn and Alford, Montrose seized Dundee for plunder. As his men were occupied looting, General Baillie's army appeared. Montrose extracted his drunken Highlanders with great difficulty and escaped into the hills — one of the hairiest moments of his whole campaign. The Dundee plunder had made his men temporarily useless.
