The Battle

History & Significance

Richard III used Nottingham Castle — which he called his "Castle of Care" — as his northern headquarters. When news arrived of Henry Tudor's landing in Wales, Richard gathered his forces at Nottingham before marching south to Bosworth. The castle was the last royal stronghold Richard occupied as undisputed king. Its strategic position on the Trent made it the ideal assembly point for a midland defensive battle.
