History & Significance

One of the early engagements of the Confederate Wars. The Earl of Ormond, commanding Crown forces still nominally loyal to Charles I, defeated a Confederate Catholic army in the Pale. Ormond's victories in Leinster temporarily stabilised the Dublin government's position while Confederate Ireland organised itself at the Kilkenny Assembly.
