The Battle

History & Significance

Kings Lynn in Norfolk declared for the king in August 1643 under pressure from local Royalist gentry. The Eastern Association under the Earl of Manchester besieged the port town and subjected it to bombardment. The town was also blockaded from the sea by Parliamentary ships. Lynn held for five weeks before surrendering in September 1643.
