The Battle

History & Significance

The MacSween lords who had held Castle Sween in Knapdale for over a century were finally expelled by Bruce-allied forces following the collapse of MacDougall power. The MacSweeens had been allied with the MacDonalds of Antrim and the Balliol cause; their expulsion completed the Bruce-Campbell-MacDonald takeover of Argyll. Some MacSweeens subsequently served as gallowglass warriors in Ireland.
