History & Significance

One of the formative battles of Highland clan history. Clan Chattan — the confederation of clans under MacKintosh leadership — fought Clan Cameron at Invernahavon in Badenoch. The MacPhersons, nominally part of Clan Chattan, refused to fight claiming a dispute over precedence. Without their numbers, Clan Chattan was defeated. The MacPherson treachery created a feud between Clan Chattan and Clan Cameron that would smoulder for generations and help produce the famous Battle of the North Inch of Perth in 1396.
