The Battle

History & Significance

A Welsh force attempting to push into Monmouthshire was defeated near the town of Usk in May 1405. This battle is related to but distinct from the Pwll Melyn engagement nearby. The defeat near Usk itself killed large numbers of Welsh rebels and shook confidence in the rebellion's ability to dominate the south-eastern March. The double disasters at Usk and Pwll Melyn in spring 1405 marked the effective turning point of the Glyndwr rebellion.

Casualties & Losses

c.800 Welsh killed near Usk
