History & Significance

The Scotch Cattle conducted intimidation raids around Pontypool during a major wages dispute in the Monmouthshire iron trade. The nocturnal raids on the homes of workers accepting reduced wages were characteristic of the Scotch Cattle methods. Military patrols from Brecon were unable to identify participants.
