History & Significance

One of Claverhouse's (Bonnie Dundee's) operations against the Cameronians during the Killing Time. Claverhouse was the most active government officer in suppressing the Covenanters and earned the name "Bloody Clavers" from his opponents — though later Jacobite tradition rehabilitated him as "Bonnie Dundee". This skirmish on Dalgig Moss was part of his regular operations through Ayrshire and Dumfriesshire.
