The Battle

History & Significance

The Trinovantes, whose capital had been seized by the Catuvellauni under Cunobelinus, had suffered oppression for a generation. Many welcomed the Roman advance as liberation. Only the Catuvellaunian garrison at Camulodunum offered final resistance. The subsequent establishment of a Roman colony on Trinovantian sacred land would later fuel the Boudiccan revolt.
