The Battle

History & Significance

As part of Bruce's systematic campaign to break the Comyn-MacDougall alliance in the north and west, he engaged their forces near Inverlochy in 1308 — the same location where Montrose would win his most spectacular victory in 1645. This Bruce-era engagement is separate from the 1431 battle (already in DB). The great strategic result was establishing Bruce's control of the Great Glen.
