The Newton Field riot of 8 June 1607 in Northamptonshire was the bloodiest episode of the Midlands Rising against enclosures. A force of levellers under John Reynolds called Captain Pouch had assembled on the open field at Newton near Kettering and were dispersed by a posse comitatus with cavalry led by Sir Edward Montague. Approximately forty to fifty rioters were killed when the horsemen rode them down. Reynolds was captured and subsequently executed.
