The Battle

History & Significance

Henry Tudor marched from Pembrokeshire northward through mid-Wales gathering supporters on his way to Bosworth. The route took him through Machynlleth and Welshpool, where Welsh gentry joined his cause. Several minor confrontations with Richard III loyalists occurred along the route as local men had to choose sides. Welsh enthusiasm for Henry as the heir of the ancient Welsh royal line was decisive.
