Hillesden House in Buckinghamshire was a Royalist outpost garrisoned by the Denton family. In March 1644, Parliamentary forces under Cromwell stormed the house after a brief bombardment, capturing the garrison including Sir Alexander Denton. The parish church was briefly used to hold prisoners. The action was part of the Parliamentary campaign to eliminate Royalist outposts in the Oxford ring, which also included actions at Bletchingdon and Brill. Cromwell\'s rapid and efficient conduct of these small siege operations contributed to his growing reputation.
