The Battle

History & Significance

Despite formal subjugation of the Brigantes under Cerialis, elements in the central Pennines and the Lake District continued sporadic resistance. Agricola in his third season conducted clearing operations through the Pennine core, establishing auxiliary forts in the high valleys and along the Lune valley. These operations pacified the last pockets of Brigantian resistance before his attention shifted permanently to Scotland.

Forces Involved

Auxiliary cohorts specialised in mountain warfare; cavalry operating in upland valleys
