History & Significance

The Taexali inhabited the northeast of Scotland roughly corresponding to modern Aberdeenshire. Roman marching camps at Ythan Wells and Kintore in Aberdeenshire record the passage of Agricola army into their territory. These are among the most northerly confirmed Roman military sites in Britain. The Taexali would have been among the tribal groups forming the confederation that fought at Mons Graupius.
