History & Significance

Subsequent to the main Battle of Barra, Bruce's forces expelled the remaining Comyn garrisons from Inverurie and its castle. Philip Mowbray — the governor — withdrew south as Bruce's authority over Aberdeenshire was consolidated. The castle and town of Inverurie became firmly Scottish as a result.
