History & Significance

The Barbarica Conspiratia of 367 AD was a coordinated attack by Picts, Scots, Attacotti and Saxons simultaneously. The Wall was betrayed by the Areani (Roman scouts who had been paid by the tribes). The Dux Britanniarum Fullofaudes was ambushed and captured; the Count of the Saxon Shore Nectaridus was killed. For at least a year, Roman authority in Britain virtually collapsed. Theodosius was sent with a relief force in 368 AD.
