The Battle

History & Significance

Tacitus describes Agricola coordinating land and sea operations north of the Tay. The Fife peninsula, between the firths of Forth and Tay, was penetrated by Roman columns. The fleet simultaneously harassed the coast, creating a multi-domain assault that unnerved the Caledonians and forced them toward the set-piece battle they would prefer to avoid.
