History & Significance

Following Welsh recovery of Ceredigion under Cadwgan ap Bleddyn, Henry I sends a punitive expedition to reassert Norman authority. Welsh forces employ classic guerrilla tactics retreating before the English column which devastates the countryside but fails to inflict decisive defeat on the Welsh. Henry I eventually negotiates Welsh submissions of homage.
