Eye Castle in Suffolk was held during the great revolt against Henry II by supporters of the rebellion centred on Hugh Bigod at Framlingham. Royal forces besieged Eye as part of the suppression of the East Anglian rising. The castle fell after Henry II returned from France and launched a swift suppression campaign across the rebellious eastern counties.
