History & Significance

High Ercall Hall in Shropshire was one of the most tenaciously defended Royalist garrisons. It withstood Parliamentary sieges and raids throughout 1645, tying down Parliamentary forces that were needed elsewhere. Its garrison raided extensively around Shrewsbury and the Wrekin. It only surrendered in June 1646 as one of the very last Royalist garrisons in Shropshire.
