History & Significance

Michael Jones, Parliamentary commander in Dublin, caught and routed the Confederate Leinster army under General Thomas Preston near Trim. Preston lost c.3,000 men and all his artillery. The defeat crippled the Confederate position in Leinster and forced them to rely on Owen Roe O'Neill's Ulster army, whose commander was in bitter political dispute with the Confederate Council.
