History & Significance

Pembrokeshire remained the principal Parliamentary enclave in a predominantly Royalist Wales. In 1643 Parliamentary forces based at Pembroke town conducted operations to hold their enclave against Royalist pressure. Several skirmishes occurred as Royalist Welsh forces attempted to contain the Pembroke garrison and prevent it from expanding its control of the Pembrokeshire peninsula.
