The Battle

History & Significance

Andrew Murray, appointed Guardian of Scotland in 1335 after the Battle of Culblean, conducted a sustained campaign of guerrilla operations and siege actions that progressively dismantled Balliol's hold on Scotland. Murray led or coordinated attacks on English-held castles, disrupted English supply lines, and fought the English relief expedition at Culblean where he defeated the Earl of Atholl. His operations between 1334 and his death in 1338 were decisive in keeping Scottish resistance alive.
