The Battle

History & Significance

In late 1642 a number of Essex Royalist gentry attempted to organise resistance to Parliamentary authority across the county. The Essex county committee, with Parliamentary cavalry including Cromwell in the region, suppressed these risings with arrests and the seizure of arms. The rapid response prevented Essex Royalism from gaining any traction.
